JSC Dneprovsky Integrated Iron&Steel Works named after Dzerzhinsky is
one of the largest enterprises of ferrous metal industry with full-scale process cycle.
The works is the sixth greatest steelmaker in Ukraine in production volume and
volume of sales.
Spring of 1887 is the date of birth of Dneprovsky Iron and Steel plant (since
1984 - Integrated Works). The first blast furnace was launched in 1889. The
production was positioned in Ekatirinoslavskaya province (since 1926,
Dnepropetrovsky region), near village of Kamenskoe (since 1917 town of
Kamenskoe, since 1936 - town of Dneprodzerzhinsk), nearby which
Ekaterininoslavskaya railway, built in 1884, connected Donetsk coal basin and
Krivyi Rih iron ore basin, run. Besides, the village occurred in the vicinity of great
water way - Dnieper river. Geographical position of the village (with its limitless
water resources) created the necessary prerequisites for the construction of large
metallurgical plant.
On February 27, 1997, the Works were transformed into Public Joint Stock
Company "Dneprovsky Iron and Steel Integrated Works named after Dzerzhinsky".
Now JSC "Dneprovsky Integrated Iron and Steel Works named after
Dzerzhinsky" (the Dzerzhinsky DMK or DMK IM. DZERZHINSKY or simply
DMK in Russian abbreviation, or DIISW in English abbreviation) is the largest
enterprise in the Dneprodzerzhinsk city (so-called "city-forming" enterprise), its
share in industrial structure of the city is 60 %. More than 20 thousands of people
work at the Works. This is 20 % of able-bodied population of the town.
The Works supplies its products to domestic clients, CIS countries and
worldwide, including Western and Eastern Europe, America, Near East, China.
