This IDC Forecast Update presents an updated look at the worldwide PC marketplace for the near future. It incorporates the latest data from 1Q14 with the market forecast to 2018. It is valid as of June 2014 and provides forecast and growth figures for PC shipments at the worldwide level and for key regional markets. Details include unit, value, and average selling price (ASP) figures, including compound annual growth rates (CAGRs) for 2014–2018. For comparison purposes, the tables in this document also include historical figures for 2011–2013.
Regional details are also provided for PCs by form factor and dollar value of shipments for the United States, Western Europe, Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) (APEJ), Japan, and the rest of the world (ROW).
PC is a need for computing, and no other existing computing device can replace that. Businesses always "need" PCs, and now consumers are also rethinking of upgrading their computers. As a result, we expect stabilization in PC growth rates, and mature regions will play a key part in that.
Please refer to IDC’s regional research studies containing historical forecasts for multiple countries for more accurate regional growth in local currencies. Note that this discussion applies only to historical values prior to 2013. 2013 and all future years are forecast at a constant exchange rate.
