Worldwide Media Tablet and eReader Application Processor 2011 Vendor Shares

This IDC study provides 2010 and 2011 worldwide unit shipments and market share for application processors used in ereaders and media tablets.

"The market for application processors for ereaders and media tablets matured in 2011 and now has several tier 1 competitors firmly established in the market, beyond Apple, such as Freescale, Texas Instruments, NVIDIA, and Samsung," according to Michael J. Palma, research manager for Consumer Semiconductor and Electronics Manufacturing research at IDC. "In 2012, we will see Intel and AMD push x86-based platforms into the tablet market, and we will see smaller ARM licensees extend their role in the market as well as solutions from MIPS licensees."
