Worldwide Enterprise Communications and Datacenter Networks 2014 Top 10 Predictions
This IDC study provides predictions for the top 10 trends impacting enterprise and datacenter networking in 2014. In 2014, IDC believes that enterprise networking, as well as datacenter networking, will continue to be transformed by virtualization, cloud, new applications, mobility, big data, and social media. These drivers will have a profound effect on business and technology requirements across the entire enterprise network. IDC expects that the aforementioned factors will place unprecedented demands on the scalability, programmability, agility, analytics capabilities, and management capabilities of enterprise networks. IDC predicts 2014 will see overall enterprise network revenue grow 4.4% to reach $42.3 billion.
According to Rohit Mehra, vice president, Network Infrastructure, "The evolution of application workloads, in their variety and their defining characteristics, is exerting new pressure on network infrastructure, extending all the way from the datacenter through to the campus and the WAN. Among the major trends we predict for 2014: an extension of SDN to the campus, location-based services on the WLAN, increasingly automated network support and management, growth of video and UC 'as a service' markets, and increased adoption of overlay-based network virtualization."
