IDC study examines the consumer security market for the period from 2006 to 2012, with vendor revenue and market growth forecasts. A five-year growth forecast for this market is shown for 2008?2012.

"Although the consumer security market is slowing from the days of 45% annual growth, the worldwide market still represents $2.83 billion in revenue, and vendors are scrapping to take share away from Symantec," said Jon Crotty, research analyst for IDC's Security Products program. IDC believes the consumer security market will ultimately shift from a set of point products into a more comprehensive solution that encompasses security, backup and storage, system management tools, and other consumer PC technologies.
