Worldwide Consumer Navigation Device 2009-2013 Forecast and AnalysisIDCAugust 6, 2009 28 Pages - SKU: IDC2424618 |
This IDC study examines the growing market for PNDs and OEM in-vehicle navigation solutions for the 2009-2013 forecast period. Overall shipments for both segments will grow from 45.7 million units in 2009 to 50.6 million in 2011, before declining to 46.4 in 2013, representing a CAGR of 0.05% from 2008 to 2013. "Demand for PNDs has primarily been driven by falling MSRPs, rather than by technology innovations introduced by the incumbent market leaders in the space. IDC does not believe that this is a source of sustainable advantage for PND vendors, nor is it appealing for consumers. PND vendors need to develop the promise of connected PNDs and related business models for related services to keep the PND segment relevant in the long term." — Susan Kevorkian, program director, Consumer Markets |
