This IDC study examines Web site development in U.S. small businesses. Spending on Web site creation and hosting is described by company size, as are the ways in which Web sites are created and where they are hosted. Online promotion and selling are also examined. "Although Web sites have become an integral part of doing businesses in the majority of small firms in the United States, there are still online small firms that do not yet have Web sites, many of the Web sites are very rudimentary, and online selling has not kept pace with the growth in Web site creation," says Merle Sandler, senior research analyst in the SMB program at IDC. "There are therefore still considerable opportunities for vendors to address the needs of small firms for Web site upgrades as well as for advanced ecommerce capabilities." |
