High and increasing levels of video consumption on mobile phones, and over mobile networks, have been spurred by fast-growing penetration of smartphones and mobile broadband.

"Video now accounts for about half of mobile data traffic in Europe," said John Delaney, research director, European Consumer Mobile. "In this document, we analyze the reasons why mobile video has failed to gain widespread uptake in the past, and why it is succeeding now. We examine the kinds of mobile video services that are being used now, and that will be used in the future. We assess the impact of mobile video growth on operators' networks and marketing strategies, and we identify where the main business opportunities in mobile video arise."
