Technology Assessment: European Datacenters - Is ARM the Future or Just Hype?
This IDC study analyzes the current state of the ARM CPU architecture for servers by assessing the technology and market forces. Expectations for ARM adoption in the near future are drawn based on this assessment, and recommendations given for processor and server vendors, as well as datacenter customers.
"The ARM architecture for servers is still in its early stages and there is certainly too much hype at the moment, which has mainly been created by a few vendors that don't even ship ARM cores yet," said Andreas Olah, research analyst, Servers and Virtualization, at IDC. "At the same time, other vendors already have the technology readily available for production environments, and ARM has the potential to conquer a substantial part of the largest hyperscale datacenters over the next few years."
