2010 U.S. Small and Medium-Sized Business Server Technology and Brand Preferences: 50 Employees Now a Key Transition Point

This IDC study examines small and medium-sized business ownership of PCs, use of local area network technology, ownership of server technology and brands, and preferences for future purchases.

"The nature of network adoption and server deployment varies considerably by company size, and the technology and brand preferences of firms with 50+ employees are quite distinct from those with fewer than 50 employees," said Justin Jaffe, senior research analyst in IDC's SMB program. "As small firms add networks for the first time, networked firms upgrade to more advanced technologies, and midsize firms consolidate and virtualize existing environments — both populations will represent a valuable opportunity for vendors."
