This IDC study examines current notebook brand ownership among small and medium-sized businesses as well as the vendors preferred for future purchase. Changing levels of brand loyalty are also described, as defined by the share of current notebook brand owners that plan to return to the same supplier for future purchases. While Dell continues to be the most widely owned notebook PC brand, SMB preferences have been in a state of change, representing both opportunity and challenge to industry participants.

"The return to PC upgrades and the appeal of the latest generation of notebook PCs will have a real impact on supplier market positions," said Ray Boggs, VP of SMB research at IDC. "Small and medium-sized businesses are looking for improvements in productivity, and the next generation of notebook PCs are providing mobile workers with the kinds of capabilities that can help SMBs compete in a variety of ways."
