U.S Residential Landline Displacement 2012–2016 Forecast

This IDC study details the move of consumers to wireless-only households over the 2012–2016 forecast period. The number of wireless-only households in the United States will rise over the forecast period but slower than IDC predicted in the past. IDC also examines the key trends that will affect the growth of landline displacement in residential households in the United States and analyzes the effect of landline displacement on telcos, cable companies, and mobile operators.

"Landline services will remain relevant, but cord-cutting is undoubtedly becoming popular," says John Weber, associate research analyst, Mobile Consumer Services. "Older generations are beginning to join the younger consumers in this phenomenon, resulting in stronger market traction for mobile wireless service in the U.S. telephony market."
