The U.S. wireless market has entered its mature phase. Market penetration has reached saturation levels, and subscriber growth is slowing. IDC is looking at the increase in prepaid usage among wireless subscribers. "Wireless subscribers are becoming more aware of their options and looking at a prepaid cell phone as a way to save money on their monthly bill," says Richard Murphy, research analyst, Wireless and Mobile Communications.
