This IDC Retail Insights Perspective looks at the growing wireless network traffic in retail stores and discusses what companies can do to better manage these networks going forward.
IDC Retail Insights recommends that retailers create an investment strategy for wireless networking in the store. The strategy should include recognition of the increased traffic that will have to be managed. Consideration should be given to companies that can provide a "retail ready" approach to wireless networking, much like past investments in ruggedized devices that came with higher acquisition costs but lower long-term costs of ownerships and better performance. The strategy should also include a policy for storing, archiving, and analyzing all this new data.
