PC penetration among the roughly 8.1 million small and medium-sized firms has leveled off, and the market is dependent on replacement and additional machines rather than first-time purchases," says Merle Sandler, senior research analyst in the SMB program at IDC. "However, the market for PC peripherals is still wide open, with strong differences by company size and industry in terms of both what firms already have in place and what they are planning to purchase."
