This IDC Buyer Case Study describes the implementation of the Varonis DatAdvantage product within a very large United States-based telecommunications provider. In 2007, as part of a broader risk management and identity management initiative, the Information Security team authored a UAM/IDM strategy and solicited support from executive committees, internal audit, business units, and internal IT departments. A component of this strategy included more proactively responding to file access and permissions events in a consistent, repeatable, and centralized manner across their Windows-based NAS and file server environment. Following 10-12 months of internal business discussions, supplier research, and due diligence, combined with several months in a proof-of-concept evaluation, the firm selected the Varonis DatAdvantage product to put into its production environment. This document provides a detailed examination of the firm's evaluation and implementation of the Varonis solution. The benefits and value in deployment of the Varonis solution are examined from both a business and an operational perspective, and future initiatives are summarized. Other firms can use this information to benchmark whether the Varonis technology is applicable within their environments and what potential hurdles might exist to deployment. |
