This IDC study (a translation of the Japanese report IDC #J12380181) presents the top 10 predictions for the unified communications (UC) market and the market outlook for 2012, after taking into account the current market situation.

Although the Japan economic growth was sluggish in 2011 due to the effects of the Great Eastern Japan Earthquake, it showed signs of recovery in 2H11 with reconstruction demands and demands for new business continuity measures. Meanwhile, from 2012, the reconstruction demands for disaster-struck areas will be in full swing despite the risks such as the European financial crisis, strong yen, and low stock prices. "UC will once again gain attention in 2012, which may be the first year of business revenge. It is vital for vendors to quickly reinforce their developments, services mash-up alliances, video-based services, and mobile solutions to promote social networking usage," says Takashi Manabe, research manager, Software and Security, IDC Japan.
