This IDC study gives details of the 2007–2011 Japan shipments of FC switches, a main component of storage networking infrastructure, in addition to forecasts up to 2016. Previous shipments of FC switches are based on unit shipments, port shipments, and revenue while the forecast is based on port shipments and revenue. Furthermore, the 2007–2011 sales for Japan external disk storage systems by specific protocol (DAS, mainframe network, NAS, FC-SAN, iSCSI, FCoE, SAS-SAN, InfiniBand) are provided together with a forecast up to 2016, and an analysis is made on the effect of the diversification of protocols on the Japan storage networking infrastructure environment.

"In order to maximize business opportunities, storage vendors and storage network vendors will have to promote balanced product and marketing strategies in order to launch new business while securing the growth of the existing FC-SAN business," analyzes Masaaki Moriyama, group director, IDC Japan.
