Japan Solid State Storage2014–2018 Forecast and 2013 Review
In this IDC study we size and forecast the Japan market for solid state storage (SSS) (I/O intensive storage) that uses flash technology. We also analyze usage trends, usage objectives, applications usage, and implementation/operational issues faced in relation to the use of SSS among Japan companies. We split the enterprise storage systems market into three segments based on media type: performance-optimized, capacity-optimized, and I/O intensive, and present their capacity shipments in 2012 and 2013. Capacity shipments for the I/O intensive segment were analyzed by splitting external enterprise storage systems into hybrid flash arrays (HFAs) and all flash arrays (AFAs), while internal was split into solid state drives (SSDs) and PCI Express (PCIe) flash cards. We also forecast the performance of the three segments based on revenue and capacity shipments from 2014 to 2018.
IDC Group Director Masaaki Moriyama
analyzes: "The Japan solid state storage (I/O intensive storage) market using flash technology has come into its own. It will be important for storage vendors to provide selection criteria that allow their users to accurately judge the benefits of implementing SSS, such as IOPS unit price, direct contribution to business, and reduced TCO."
