This IDC study, analyzes the trends of major vendors in the Japan SMB IT market and their future developments. An analysis was conducted based on interviews regarding major vendors and the survey results of the Japan Small and Medium Business User Survey conducted in February 2012, pertaining to product (hardware/packaged software) utilization trends and needs.
The server implementation rate is over 80% in companies with 100 employees or more and replacement demand will form the bulk of the demand in the future. New demand is expected to come from companies with 1–99 employees as the server implementation rate is around 30%. However, many companies with 1–99 employees are reluctant to use IT due to shortage of manpower or lack of skills, particularly in the implementation and operation of information systems. Therefore, "IT vendors are required to propose solutions that match the company size but they should not limit the solutions within the IT framework. They should provide support of a wider scope such as business process outsourcing and manpower services," says Hitoshi Ichikawa, senior market analyst, IT Spending, IDC Japan.
