This IDC study describes the performance of the Japan small and medium-sized business (SMB) IT market in 2014 and presents market forecasts for 2015–2019 by company size, product, industry, region, and prefecture, based on the latest economic situation and on product information gathered from vendor surveys up until April 2015.
Although it is predicted that the Japan SMB IT market will experience negative growth in 2015, in terms of the regional breakdown, it is believed that the Tokyo metropolitan area will maintain positive growth in 2015. In addition, although it is expected that, starting in 2016, IT spending in the three major metropolitan areas of Japan will greatly exceed that in other regions, it is also believed that the disparities between the specific trends in IT spending in these other regions will grow even wider. "IT vendors will have to tailor their solutions strategies to meet the requirements of the particular region. In particular, it will be essential that they make recommendations in collaboration with sales channels for use of the 3rd Platform (mobility, the cloud, social technology, and Big Data)," says IDC spending research manager Hitoshi Ichimura.
