This IDC study (which is a translation of the Japanese report IDC #J8380107) looks at the business trends of vendors with diverse roles and aspirations in the Japan software as a service (SaaS) market that has entered the growth and development phase, with focus on partnership systems. In this study, SaaS/SaaS applications are services/applications (with no software licensing contracts) that provide standardized software and management functions on a one-to-many basis, irrespective of IDC's SaaS market taxonomy. Application vendors, SaaS platform vendors, technology partners, and sales companies in the Japan SaaS market are collaborating in various ways. However, there remain issues to be addressed in developing partnership systems that are effective in realizing and promoting the SaaS business. "It is necessary for SaaS vendors to carry out fundamental reviews of current outdated distribution systems and establish new partner ecosystems promptly," says Tomoko Akagi, group manager, Software, IDC. |
