This IDC study (which is a translation of the Japanese report IDC #J9110107) analyzes the legal and ICT trends in the environment, healthcare, and consumer protection segments of the non-financial compliance market, and the strategies related to the DPJ/SDP/PNP coalition government established in September 2009. In addition, we also size the Japan environmental, healthcare, and consumer protection compliance management markets from 2006 to 2008, and forecast the same markets from 2009 to 2013.

Safety and quality in upstream processes such as planning and design are traditionally the strengths of Japan's manufacturing industry. These can also be applied to preventive solutions for compliance management. "ICT vendors should promote the standardization and sharing of environment protection, heath/medical care and consumer protection compliance ICT platforms from the global perspective. At the same time, they should shift from ex-post to preventive solutions, and recognize products or services differentiation pivoted on safety and quality as a key to breaking out of the economic rut as soon as possible," says Eiji Sasahara, research manager, IT spending, IDC Japan.
