| Countries covered: Europe This IDC study draws on the results of the IDC European Vertical Market Survey, carried out in January-April 2009 in the top 5 Western European countries (France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the U.K.) among 1,898 companies with more than 20 employees.The survey looks at vertical market IT spending directions, adoption of IT solutions', solution' priorities and investment plans, adoption and plans for mobile/wireless solutions, familiarity, adoption and plans for a range of technologies including virtualization, storage and server consolidation, networked storage, green datacenters, SOA, and IP telephony. This study focuses on Western European vertical markets' familiarity with selected technologies (server consolidation, storage consolidation, system virtualization, SAN, NAS, green datacenters), current deployment, and short-term adoption plans. Results are given for total Western Europe for the following vertical markets: financial services (including banking and insurance/other finance), discrete manufacturing, process manufacturing, telecom/media/transport/utilities/oil and gas, retail/wholesale, business services, healthcare, and government. "Despite the economic uncertainty, demand for infrastructure technologies is set to increase in the next 24 months. IT vendors should keep stressing the long-term economic benefits resulting from the upgrade of infrastructure technologies," said Giacomo Laurini, senior research analyst, IDC European Industry Solutions. |
