IDC's Technical Computing Application/Industry Segment Taxonomy and 2008 Overview

This IDC study presents definitions for each of the 13 application/industry segments IDC currently tracks, revenue trends from 2007 to 2008 in each sector, and finally, IDC's near-term projections in those categories. Technical computing has gone through a rapid growth over the recent five years and now has evolved to a new phase. IDC believes that it is important to revisit the market segments that technical computing solutions are targeting.

"It is important for both vendors and users to understand the unique characteristics of each application and industry segment in this market," says Jie Wu, research manager with Technical Computing group at IDC. "By doing so, it helps vendors better identify their target market investments and design tailored solutions for specific markets, it also helps them better understand their own market position and choose the right technology solutions."
