This IDC study discusses the migration of hypervisor between different vendor offerings and how the deployment of private cloud will impact such transition. This document draws on data that was collected as part of IDC's Private Cloud Survey and Server Virtualization End-User Survey, which were conducted earlier in 2012.

"IDC's surveys show that hypervisor migration is not prevalent today but will speed up due to private cloud deployment drive," says Iris Feng, research analyst, Virtualization and System Software at IDC. "Customers care most about the efficiency and effectiveness of hypervisor, as well as the cost of licensing. Private cloud deployment will create a down-sell opportunity for virtualization vendors to give the hypervisor market a fresh look in the future."
