Global eCommerce Platforms Ranking by Gross Merchandise Volume
This IDC Insight provides a ranking of the largest ecommerce companies by gross merchandise volume (GMV). For the purposes of this study, GMV represents the total volume in dollars of all physical and digital merchandise sold via Web sites in a given economic period. In many cases, GMV can be much larger than an ecommerce company's revenue. Included in this ranking are companies providing online marketplaces that facilitate transactions or direct sales of a diversified set of third-party physical and digital goods and services. For the purposes of this ranking, we exclusively consider those transactions that take place online.
