This IDC Energy Insights Perspective includes presentations from the sixth Italian "Energy & Utilities Forum" organized by IDC Energy Insights and IDC Italia. The event, which was held on May 24, 2012, in Milan, hosted more than 120 representatives mainly operating in the utilities industry but also in the ICT world. The theme this year was "How energy and ICT technologies allow energy & utility companies to innovate and deliver economic value at present and for the future". As usual the conference was a mix of presentations, roundtables and focus group debates including items such as:

  • Smart Grids and Smart cities into action — Examples of Italian and international concrete initiatives and projects
  • How utilities CIOs are approaching cloud, Big Data/analytics and mobile solutions
  • Examples of analytics and Big Data technologies
  • New business models, new players in the energy value chain and the future role of the distribution companies
  • Gas smart meter deployment in Italy
