Continuous Improvement: Practicing 5S in the CIO's Office
This IDC study explains how a Lean methodology, 5S, which is commonly used in industrial houses, can be used in a CIO's virtual office for effective management of information and applications in the enterprise. Adoption of proven methodologies in one area in other applicable areas will continue to be a way of leveraging best practices. Each of the principles in 5S is explained in the IT context, along with case studies, for effective illustration and to show their applicability in the real world.
"Continuous improvement is and will continue to be an effective tool in the CIO's kit to ensure that the ecosystem keeps getting better day by day in an ever changing world. Companies that take it seriously and come up with sustainable ways of keeping the momentum going will benefit in the long run," says S Ramachandran, research manager, IDC Manufacturing Insights.
