This IDC study presents a cut of the results from IDC's 2012 Connected Consumer Survey, focusing on the results related to home networking and data applications on the home network. The survey was completed in June 2012 and included 1,508 respondents, all of whom are U.S. adults who subscribe to broadband Internet access at home.

"Users have begun to take advantage of the expanded capabilities of their home networks beyond just data networking applications, and they are relying more on their networks to connect a wider variety of devices. However, uncertainty and a lack of awareness remain on the part of consumers about their home networking equipment and the full extent of the possibilities presented by networks as more networking applications come to market, even as consumers remain open to these new possibilities," said Jonathan Gaw, research manager of IDC's Connected Consumer program.
