This IDC study of the Canadian information systems outsourcing (ISO) and network and desktop outsourcing services (NDOS) markets presents IDC's market sizing and spending forecast for NDOS and ISO services. The Canadian infrastructure outsourcing market posted modest gains in 2010. The market, as measured by revenue generated by outsourcing providers, rose by 4.6%. In a year characterized by heightened interest in outsourcing yet slow contract activity, the Canadian infrastructure outsourcing market grew by C$331 million to reach C$7,470 million.
The most positive signs for the market have occurred in just the past quarter. Outsourcing advisers and vendors have reported a marked increase in interest in outsourcing. IDC anticipates that throughout the first half of 2011, interest will funnel through from assessment and evaluation of bidders to contracting. In addition, there are C$25 billion in contracts coming to term in 2011-2013. "This is a massive amount of business that will be up for play," says Mark Schrutt, director, Services and Enterprise Applications.
IDC anticipates that while the incumbents will win the majority of deals, there will be tremendous opportunity for other players to emerge as winners, altering the competitive landscape in Canada. One thing is for sure: the business that gets renegotiated and awarded will be far different from the contracts being replaced.
