2012 CES: Products, Themes, and Comments

This IDC Insight discusses the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show, held in Las Vegas, Nevada, which offers industrywide insights into the overarching industry issues and the underlying themes and products that will drive the market for the near term.

This year's show was, as expected, full of Ultrabook-class PC announcements. There was much more to this event, though, as the themes playing out across the show floor were mobility computing, device portability, device connectivity, and data/experience sharing. The secondary themes were all about enabling mobility and connectivity, especially through infrastructure products and technology (at the developer/SDK level) that help developers create the tools and applications for these platforms.
