This IDC study highlights demand-side results of customer perception of top-ranked providers in the category of mobile application development (AD) services. The results of this study indicate that brand recognition plays a significant role in influencing the perception of enterprises regarding providers that they believe can service them most effectively in mobile application development and broader mobile life-cycle services. Vendors are given not only a framework of those players that appear to have competitive advantage as related to customer perception in this area but also key third-party capabilities that enterprises think are most important in developing mobile applications.

"Success as a provider of discrete or bundled mobile application development services will require players to highlight a combination of their business and technical competencies and experience in innovative mobile use case design, prototyping, and personalization, as well as availability of end-to-end mobile life-cycle services. Enterprise customers are challenged by the rapid pace of and investment required in mobile technology platforms, and many plan to leverage a range of professional project or fully outsourced mobile application services," says Rona Shuchat, director of Application Development, Testing, and Management Services.
