This IDC insight outlines the key drivers of growth and trends in the emerging SHS market in Australia. It provides both views of supplier and end-user organisation. SHS are one of three subsegments of the hosting infrastructure services (HIS) market.

HIS covers the access to systems infrastructures and/or management, which support infrastructure-related services. The HIS market can be seen as a subset of the IT outsourcing (ITO) market but differs from IT outsourcers wherein more standardised service offerings are delivered. HIS vendors provide contractual service offerings, as well as deploy, host, manage, and deliver access to systems and network infrastructures from the centrally managed datacentre facilities. The HIS market can be segmented into the following three separate but interrelated subsegments:

Storage hosting providers: These are services dedicated to providing customers access to storage devices, software, networks, and other related services in a utility manner for BC, remote backup, data archiving, and other data needs. Web hosting service providers (SPs): These provide Web hosting and other datacentre services. Management SPs: These services are composed of bundled offerings, such as hosted software and services for systems and network management functions (e.g., systems infrastructure monitoring and management services and security). IDC expects that hosted management services will generally be part of larger service contracts.
