This IDC study takes a closer look into the Australian mobile market and the competitive landscape, including a glimpse into network upgrades that have been outlined as part of network road maps and strategies. This study includes a comparison of mobile revenue to fixed-line services, as well as mobile voice and mobile data revenue.
Yvonne Loy, associate market analyst of IDC Australia, Telecommunications, says: "The Australian mobility market has reached a significant milestone as mobile non-voice revenue surpassed the mobile voice revenue in FY12. The continuous adoption of smartphones, mobile broadband, and tablets has encouraged users to engage in data-centric activities such as Web browsing, video streaming, mobile applications for the purpose of online gaming, and increasing productivity at work. Whilst the growth in mobile data consumption is expected to continue, major mobile service providers are expected to face with the challenges of declining voice revenue and potential network congestion with the rapid data traffic. With the long-term evolution network, mobile service providers are able to alleviate network congestion issues, improve customer experience, as well as generate more mobile data-related revenue."
