This IDC study discusses the factors that will have the biggest commercial impact on the mobile services market across Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan), or APEJ, in 2012. It examines the various developments that IDC expects will shape the mobile market for 2012 and reflects the impact that the Consumerisation of IT on businesses. Applications and over the top services are creating a new ecosystems that will change the mobile landscape and the service providers' position in it. The other pillar of consumerisation of IT, new mobile devices, is also driving change in applications adoption, virtualisation and workplace architectures.

"The threat of over the top (OTT) services and brutal competition in the mobile market in Asia-Pacific will drive services and product innovation in 2012. Organisations are also impacted by the continued trend in the consumerisation of IT and the growing number of smart mobile devices coming into their organisations. Not having a mobile strategy is simply commercial suicide," says Tim Dillon, Associate Vice President, Mobile & End User Research, IDC Asia/Pacific.
