This IDC study updates the previously published forecasts in Asia/Pacific Branded Tape Automation 2009-2013 Forecast (IDC #AP268102S, August 2009). It provides a summary of the Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan), or APEJ, tape automation market revenue and shipments in 1H09 compared with that in 1H08. The revenue and shipment figures are broken down by country, class segment/technology, and vendor. Forecasts from 2009 to 2013 for the region, as well as separate forecasts for each of the 13 countries covered, are also provided.

"The tape automation market in the APEJ region saw severe declines that have set a new baseline in both revenue and units for the coming years, with countries across the region recording double-digit declines. Moreover, some countries saw declines of more than half the revenue in 1H09 as compared with where it used to be in 2H08. IDC expects a marginal rebound in early 2010 from the delayed purchases in 2009. The tape automation market would not likely go back to the same revenue trends from previous years as constant price competition and shift of mindshare toward disk storage become more prominent in the coming years fueled by constant consolidation trends emerging form the need to streamline IT operations," says Mark Lee, market analyst, IDC Asia/Pacific, Storage Research.
