According to Mark Lee, market analyst, Asia/Pacific Storage Research at IDC Asia/Pacific: "The demand for single tape drives will continue to decline as the onset of the economic crisis moved into full momentum toward the end of 2008. Faster performing and reliable tape automation are some factors contributing to the declining trend. Entry-level single tapes would soon be replaced by midrange and possibly enterprise-class single tape drives. As IT budgets dwindle, the prevalence of consolidated storage within storage infrastructure gains more interest. The Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan), orAPEJ, market saw a 6% drop in 2008 year over year (YoY) with revenue standing at US$234.54 million as compared with 2007, which stood at US$253.41 million. Units fell sharper in 2008 where total shipment units was at 97,936 as compared with 126,273 units in 2007, indicating a decline of 22% YoY."
