This IDC study provides an overview and analysis of M&A deals in 1Q14 across all major sectors of the ICT industry, including enterprise IT infrastructure, telecommunications, enterprise applications, IT services, semiconductors and components, digital media, and other sectors. It also discusses the different business, financial, and technology trends affecting M&A activities in the ICT industry.
"The first quarter of 2014 posted the highest levels of tech M&A activity since 2000. The strong stock market and improved macroeconomic conditions (e.g., low interest rates and modest economic growth in the United States and other major economies), coupled with the availability of cash and credit and strong technology drivers, have finally come together to create a 'perfect storm' in the tech M&A market. This trend was clearly evident across all the major indicators and especially in the total disclosed value of ICT deals, which reached a record level of almost $147 billion — a level that has not been seen since the beginning of the millennium." — Dan Yachin, research director, IDC's EMEA Emerging Technologies
