Fishing in the US

The industry comprises establishments primarily engaged in the commercial catching or taking of finfish, shellfish, or miscellaneous marine products from a natural habitat, such as the catching of bluefish, eels, salmon, tuna, clams, crabs, lobsters, mussels, oysters, shrimp, frogs, sea urchins, and turtles. The catch is then sold as live or whole fish to seafood processors, fish and seafood wholesalers, export markets or direct to the public. The commercial fishing industry does NOT include aquaculture production (NAICS 11251), which comprise establishments primarily engaged in the farm raising of finfish, shellfish, or any other kind of animal aquaculture. It also does NOT include production of processed fish and seafood which takes place on board a fishing vessel. This is included in NAICS 31171 Seafood Product Preparation and Processing. This report covers the scope, size, disposition and growth of the industry including the key sensitivities and success factors. Also included are five year industry forecasts, growth rates and an analysis of the industry key players and their market shares.
