Research and Development Trend of China’s Elder Care Industry, 2013-2017
In 2012, China’s ageing population accounted for 14.3% with the number of 193 million. It is estimated that this number will exceed 220 million by 2015 and exceed 400 million in 2027. In nearly half a century in the future, China’s ageing population will always show a rapid growth trend. Huge ageing population and the ever-increasing trend in the next few decades decides that the elder consumer group will support a huge market for elders.
China’s elder care organizations have gained rapid development in recent nearly 30 years, especially, the number of beds in the elder care organizations increased rapidly. According to the bulletin of Committee on Ageing of National Bureau of Statistics, in the end of 2012, there were 42,000 elder care service organizations with the bed number of 3.81 million in China. This number is far from the target of 30 beds for per thousand elders. “Line up” has become a popular issue for the elders.
The development of elder care industry does not catch up with the intensified ageing. According to the surveys of China National Committee on Ageing in 13 provinces and cities, China’s aging industry has involved elder care services, healthcare, tourism, education, real estate and other areas, but most of the enterprises are in small and medium scale, the strength is not strong, and the industry chain is not formed; some related industries and large investors have not entered this industry. The existing elder care service organizations and facilities are still far from meeting the market demands, and the elder care service industry does not form a certain market scale.
