The power & transmission cable market is forecast to grow 12% between 1999 and 2006, from US$12.3 billion to US$13.8 billion. This is a slightly lower rate of growth than in other segments of the wire and cable industry. The market is mature in Europe, but growing fast in Africa and Asia and electrification of these regions will help boost demand in all other segments of the cable market. The USA, Japan, and Mexico remain the dominant producers, with each producing over US$1.3 billion a year. Leading exporters are France, South Korea, and the USA.
