Cocoa Beans in South East Asia and Oceania

World demand for cocoa beans is growing at 3% a year. Gobi International analysts forecast the market to be worth almost US$6 billion by 2004. Cote d’Ivoire is the largest producer of cocoa beans, with production at 1.2 million tonnes a year (US$ 2 billion). Europe is the largest consuming region of cocoa beans, accounting for 41% of world consumption. Demand is growing fastest in North America, which is experiencing, on average, a 5% growth per year. Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, and Indonesia are the major exporters of cocoa beans. This report evaluates the cocoa beans market in 124 countries from 1997, with forecasts forward to 2004.
