Summary
Dental implants are artificial tooth replacements that are used to counter tooth loss. The procedure primarily involves prosthetic dentistry, though it also falls into the category of cosmetic dentistry. Although there are a number of other restorative options for missing teeth like bridges and dentures, none have proven to be as functionally effective and durable as implants.
Implants offer a permanent solution to tooth loss. They are also used in conjunction with other restorative procedures like providing support to single crowns for maximum effectiveness. Implants can also be used to support a dental bridge for the replacement of multiple missing teeth, and can be used with dentures to increase stability and reduce gum tissue irritation. The future of dental implants is heading towards hybrid implants. Hybrid implants will constitute a Zirconium head for improved aesthetics and a titanium implant for improved strength and functionality.
