Introduction

Obesity can be defined as buildup of excessive fat in the body which poses a risk to the person’s health. Body Mass Index (BMI) is a useful measure as it determines whether a person is overweight or obese based on their height and weight. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), an adult with a BMI of XX or more is considered overweight and a person with a BMI of XX or more is considered obese.

Bariatric surgery or weight-loss surgery is suggested as a primary treatment for obesity if the patient’s BMI is more than or equal to XX, or if it is between XX and XX and the patient is suffering from weightrelated diseases such as diabetes or high blood pressure.
