| Countries covered: Europe Potent Combination of Manned Guards and Technology Spearheads Growth in the European Manned Guarding Market The growing threat of terrorism has propelled security issues up front and centre, enhancing the need for more technological security solutions. Alarm monitoring and response solutions are assuming great importance to facilitate rapid action to deal with any critical situation. However, an optimum solution combining manned guarding services and security technology will emerge as the most preferred solution in the future. The increasing synthesis between technology and manned guarding has resulted in the enhanced uptake of video surveillance, access control and intruder detection systems in the security environment. Further, countries across Europe are facing acute shortage of police authorities and inefficiency in addressing the rising crime situation. This is opening up opportunities for wider adoption and outsourcing of manned guarding services to private security service providers. Video surveillance technology has added another layer to security, further optimising the solution. Shortfall of Trained Guards Poses a Hurdle for Market Participants However, the shortage of trained guards is taking on serious dimensions, especially in the United Kingdom. Low wages are at the crux of the problem as guards are typically paid around £18,500 - £22,500 a year. “The shortage of trained guards is forcing companies across Europe to raise the wages of guards, negatively impacting profit margins of smaller companies in the market,” explains the analyst. “The economic slowdown also makes cost control critical as customers pressurize service providers to cut costs.” To circumvent this challenge, service providers are deploying technology that can help expedite the efficiency of guards and security measures while cutting down on the number of static guards required. To offset the margin crunch, security companies are offering comprehensive security packages, which combine guarding and electronic security. Businesses are also opting for services that combine manned guarding with other facility services such as cleaning and building maintenance, where all services are handled by a single contractor. In the future, manned guarding services will entail packages that combine both security service and facility service. “Guarding service providers must strive to upscale customer value by offering optimized guarding services,” concludes the analyst. “Further, efforts must be raised to educate end-users on the benefits of combining state of the art security technologies with guarding, to achieve better penetration capability in this competitive marketplace.” |
