The global IT industry, unrestrained by geography or availability of natural resources has witnessed developing countries such as India challenge market leaders like the United States and Europe. This industry is currently poised for a huge growth mainly driven by the developing markets such as Asia and Eastern Europe. The IT industry is currently recovering from the contraction at the beginning of this century and is expected to continue to do so over the forecast period. The United States is the largest producer and consumer of information and communications technology (ICT) products and services. Since 1995, the U.S. IT industry has been the main driver of growth for the U.S. economy. The revival of growth in 2004 after the downturn in 2001-2002, across all sectors in the U.S. economy and the increase in utilization of IT as a major tool for operational efficiency has boosted IT spending in the United States.

The U.S. economic recovery has been broad-based as reflected by the growth in investment, job creation, and exports as a result of improved competitiveness, gain in productivity, and sustained consumer spending. The low interest rates and the gradual pace of inflation are providing the required stimulus for growth. The dollar realigning with the major trading currencies has significantly contributed to the U.S. export competitiveness. Assuming that the present conditions remain unchanged, the U.S. economy is all poised to grow at a moderate pace in forecast period.
