Growing Penetration of Combination Drugs Spur Growth

The unprecedented success of GlaxoSmithKline's bronchodilator-corticosteroid combination drug, Advair, is changing the landscape of the U.S. asthma therapies market. The rapid acceptance of DPIs is driven by its ease and convenience of use and potentially better drug deposition, compared with MDIs. Also, strict regulations governing the reformulation of older CFC-containing MDIs into hydrofluoroalkane (HFA) containing MDIs are boosting growth in the DPI market.
