Clean Room Consumables

The electronics industry will remain the largest user of clean room consumables. However, the use of clean room technologies is rapidly expanding into other markets, such as food and beverage processing, biotechnology, and medical device production and packaging. In addition, changes in the semicon-ductor industry, most notably the move to 300 millimeter wafers, will increase the use of smaller clean room enclosures (mini-environ-ments). These units generally require smaller amounts of consum-able products. As a result of these factors, electronics will account for a somewhat smaller share of the total, and growth will trail advances in emerging markets. There are, however, opportunities within the electronics sector for more rapid growth, such as flat panel displays and optical components. Clean Room Consumables presents historical US demand data (1992, 1997 and 2002) and forecasts to 2007 and 2012 by product (e.g., apparel, chemicals, filters, cleaning prod-ucts, sensors); and by market (e.g., electronics, pharmaceuticals, foods and beverages, medical devices, biotechnology, plastic products, automotive). Leading companies are profiled, including Berkshire, Contec, DuPont, Illinois Tool Works, Lym-Tech and Milliken.
