Food service and hospitality is a vibrant industry that covers a wide range of areas including hotels, resorts, restaurants, bars, nightclubs, gaming and entertainment, travel and tourism, events, meetings and more. The multi-billion dollar business of food and hospitality relies heavily on free time and disposable income. As a result, the recent recession which began in 2007, had a dramatic impact on the industry.

Many Colleges and Universities offer accredited programs that also include work experience and internships. Education and experience are key requirements for those looking to advance in the food service and hospitality world. Some of the most desirable positions in this field are hotel manager, executive chef, meeting and convention planner, concierge and maitre d. Careers in this field offer a dynamic work environment with the potential to earn a very good living. Many other jobs exist as well, such as, guest services, banquet and special functions, accounting, human resources, reservation services, purchasing, bellman services, laundry and housekeeping. All who choose to work in the food service and hospitality industry must be inspired to exceed expectations, enjoy serving others and be willing to go the extra mile.
